Well, I thought about building my own buggy for a while, and I saw things that can drive legally on the street.

The headlights are the most common mechanism, taillights and brake lights, turn signals, speedometer, horn, wipers and seat belts. All these elements must be DOT certified. You also need a certificate of emissions after the age of the engine.
